CARTOON NETWORK PROJECTS

BEN 10 PROMO

Animation: Norm Konyu
Direction: Norm Konyu, Paul Nicholson
Client: Cartoon Network (UK)

This was a half term promotional stunt for Cartoon Network, involving the main characters from Ben10. They were short little stories/gags that fit between programming, often introducing the upcoming show. It had to look exactly like the series, as we used some scenes from the show at times within the stories (though there is no recycled material in the clips I’m showing here) to keep the budget tightly controlled.

A short mash-up of the various Cartoon Network characters I’ve animated on promos and idents, all done in Flash.

FOSTERS HOME FOR IMAGINARY FRIENDS PROMO

Animation: Norm Konyu
Client: Cartoon Network (UK)

This is a promo I did many years ago for Cartoon Network. There were additional stings in the project, as well as constructing loops of animation for the character Bloo, for the Kaydara system. This allowed children to call in, and via a live operator, speak to Bloo while he was onscreen.

ROBOTBOY AND THE ISLAND OF DOOM

Animation: Norm Konyu, Matt West
Direction: Norm Konyu
Client: Cartoon Network (UK)

This was an ambitious half term stunt created for Cartoon Network. The premise was that over five days, Tommy and Lola would be ‘tortured’ by Robotboy’s arch nemesis, Kamikaze. Each day, kids could phone in live to Gus, Tommy’s hapless pal, who, stationed alone at Robotboy HQ, could help rescue them. Gus was controlled live with the Kaydara system, allowing some basic on the fly acting and lip sync. As it was, at the end of each day, Kamikaze’s assistant, Constantine, managed to accidentally foil Kamikaze’s plot. On the Friday, Robotboy himself would save the day.
These are truncated versions of the five insidious tortures….

CNToo STOP MOTION CAMPAIGN

Animation: Norm Konyu
Client: Cartoon Network (UK)

And now for something a little different. Cartoon Network’s CNToo channel wanted to inspire kids to try their hand at animating some of their characters, and this promo was the starting point.
I animated the 2D elements that were then printed on cards and T-shirts used in the live action stop motion sequences. Though I wasn’t present at the shoot, I helped plan them, timed them out, and created all the boring dope sheets and notes used to make the shoot go smoothly (at least in theory…)

CARTOON NETWORK ADVENT CALENDAR PROMO

Animation: Norm Konyu
Client: Cartoon Network

I animated the 2D character elements for this ident in Flash, which were then whisked off to the land of 3D and After Effects and the folks who do that type of thing.
I have no idea why I no longer have the original audio, so we’ll have to make do with a hastily attached Xmas theme instead…
